The egg and the spring equinox

A chat with Dionne Jennings
2

Happy spring!!!

Dionne and I are back on this podcast episode to talk about the ever mystical egg and its importance in Slavic culture. One of my favorite things about reconnecting with our lineage is that we have incredibly simple tools accessible to do this work. The egg is one such tool that has been called upon for symbolic, nutritious, magical, and healing purposes, which we will discuss in this episode.

The pisanki (Polish) or pysanky (Ukrainian) will be a particular focus in this episode as Dionne and I compare and contrast our experience with the tradition that is shared between both Polish and Ukrainian cultures. These threads of course run through all Slavic peoples. For example, in Slovenia, one word for these traditional types of Easter eggs is pisanice. In Czech it is kraslice. No matter what they are called though, the meaning is the same.

Dionne also shared this song to call the spring with me after our chat and I wanted to pass it along. It is from Polissia in Ukraine. The song speaks of a spruce, an oak, and seven doves. I hope you enjoy!
